The debate was initiated following the publication of the European Parliament Report on “State of play of farmland concentration in the EU: how to facilitate the access to land for farmers”. There are today many different ambitious objectives imposed to land markets in Europe, whether in terms of environmental goals, competitiveness or land access for new entrants.

Finding the right balance between these numerous objectives appears therefore to be a particularly difficult exercise. The panel and the audience widely discussed how land markets could fulfill these objectives without putting under too strong pressure the European agricultural sector.
